LAKE HAVASU — The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating a weekend waterway fatality at Lake Havasu. Division of Boating Safety deputies responded to a report of a subject in the water not breathing in an area south of Body Beach on Saturday, June 28.

“They observed a juvenile male victim on shore and CPR was being administered,” said MCSO public information specialist Anita Mortensen. She said the 17-year-old from Moreno Valley, California was pronounced dead following transport to Havasu Regional Medical Center.

Mortensen said investigation revealed the teenager had been operating a personal watercraft by himself before family members on shore lost sight of him for a brief time.

“He was later found by a passing boater, wearing a life jacket and floating face down in the water, not breathing,” Mortensen said. “Subjects in the area were able to pull the juvenile to shore where they began CPR.”

Moretensen said accident investigation continues into what appeared to be a single vessel incident.
