“Little Inspirations” art exhibit shows Kingman kids inspiring adult artists (WATCH)

KINGMAN – Downtown Kingman has a very active art community, kind of anchored by the Kingman Center for the Arts.  And they had a very special showing.  It was called, “Little Inspirations.” That would be “Little” as in youngsters, not “little” as in not much. It might be better if the gallery Submission Coordinator Carol Campbell explains.

“We came up with the idea of having kids draw their art and turn it in.  And then our artists used the kid’s art as inspiration for their pieces.”

Thirty young artists from around the area participated in the show and sale that is on display at the Kingman Center for the Arts gallery on Beale Street in downtown Kingman until the end of June.  Carol explains the reason the Art Center felt this is a positive fundraising experience for all concerned.

Seven-year-old Presley submitted the line drawing of a hammer head shark as part of the “Little Inspirations” art exhibit fundraiser for the downtown Kingman Center for the Arts (KCA) show continuing now through June 21.

“It draws kids into the arts, and it also is a way for them to see what professional artists can do.  Kids area really excited to see their art on the wall, and to interact with the adult artists.”

One of the “Little Inspirers” was a second grader, Delilyah Willey, who, with second grade logic, explains about snow in Arizona and what inspired her entry.

“If it snowed in Arizona, it wouldn’t snow.  So I thought I would draw the Hualapais with trees and the snow and the little snowy path.  I’m really happy I got to inspirate somebody to draw something like this.”

The “somebody” she got to “inspirate” (there is such a word) was Rob Bagge, a Kingman Center for the Arts member artist.

A KCA member adult artist, Janice Millane-Wasmer, uses Presley’s work as the “Little Inspirations” to produce a picture. Both pieces are on display and for sale during the KCA exhibit on Beale Street in downtown Kingman.

“When she submitted and I saw it, I thought, I know exactly what I would like to paint, it the snow , one of the curves in the Hualapais with the snow on it, and she brought the inspiration and I embellished it.”

The youth art pictures will be on display along with the adult artist inspirations at the Kingman Center for the Arts at 402 Beale Street now through June 21.
