Hualapai Nation PD detain suspect in train robbery

PEACH SPRINGS – Another train bandit incident is reported in northwest Arizona. The Hualapai Nation Police Department reports its officers initiated a traffic stop of a Chevy Tahoe suspected to be involved in train robberies in the Peach Springs area at 2:40 a.m. on March 27.

“Upon pulling over, 8 individuals fled from the vehicle where the driver, a male out of Mexico was detained,” a press release said. “Officers located stolen property (Nike shoes) near the vehicle.”

Subsequent investigation led authorities to stop a Toyota 4Runner at milepost 95 on Route 66. Approaching officers observing evidence of criminal activity directed the driver to exit the vehicle.

“The female suspect initially complied with the order but then re-entered the vehicle, shifted into gear, and accelerated away from the scene at a high rate of speed,” the news release said. It stated that the fleeing Toyota struck an officer who was not injured.

Police reportedly pursued the Toyota about 80 miles before the female was ejected after crashing in a construction zone near the California border on Interstate 40. The woman who sustained minor injuries was transported for treatment at Valley View Medical Center in Mohave Valley.

Police say both suspects are illegal immigrants from Mexico.

19-year-old Anahai Hurtado Vega, Sinaloa remains in the Adult Detention Facility in Kingman. Jose Arguelles-Chavez, 34, was already picked up by federal authorities for possible deportation.
