Wood gets five years for child pornography

BULLHEAD CITY – The Mohave County attorney’s office has resolved another child pornography case with a five-year prison sentence ordered for a Bullhead City man. The punishment is commonly imposed in plea agreements for men detected to possess child porn material on one or more of their electronic devices.
Jonathan Wood, 42, was arrested last August when Bullhead City police followed up on information from the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that traced illegally downloaded material to Wood and his home at 1555 Lause Road in Bullhead City.
Wood was charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor for unspecified items of evidence found at his residence. Nine of those counts are dismissed and the other becomes a conviction for a charge reduced to attempted sexual exploitation of a minor through a plea agreement.
At a January 24 sentencing hearing at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman, defense attorney Ross Carponelli offered that Wood suffered a downward spiral following a falling out with a girlfriend, resulting in stability and emotional issues.
“Things got bad for him,” Carponelli told Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen.
Wood said he’ll use the prison time to address alcohol abuse and other personal problems.
“I want to get sober as I get it behind me, get on with my life and get back on track,” Wood said.
“This is sick stuff,” Judge Jantzen said of the pornographic content involved in the case. “Hopefully, you’ll get some help when you get out.”
