CHLORIDE – Now that the weather is beautiful, the friendly folks in Chloride, a historic 1860’s silver mining camp, are filling their yards with treasures for the Saturday, November 2 All Town Yard Sale. Sales begins at 8 a.m., while the famous Chloride Bake Sale starts at 9 a.m.
This semi-annual event attracts hundreds of visitors who explore this zany town, and purchase an assortment of antiques, collectibles, and other unique items from the yards of Chloride’s residents. A must first stop is the Bake Sale at the corner of Elkhart Avenue and Second Street. Not only will there be a variety of tasty pastries and cookies, but you can pick up an official map of all the yard sales. Or the Mineshaft Market also has maps.
In addition to yard sales at “High Noon” there will be gunfights in Cyanide Springs, just east of the county park. While in Cyanide Springs stop by the Chloride Historical Society’s Jim Fritz Museum and the Silver Belle Playhouse next door. Both are full of memorabilia from Chloride’s glory days. Be sure to visit the numerous retail shops in Cyanide Springs and all over town. You will find handmade jewelry, antiques, local ore, wooden crafts, western art, collectibles, and Christmas gifts galore. When hunger hits the park on Second Street has picnic facilities or across the street is Yesterday’s Steakhouse and Saloon where there are a variety of breakfast and lunch goodies. The Mineshaft Market and the Thirsty Miner have drinks, candy and other delights. History buffs will enjoy a stop at the old jail on Merrimac Avenue, and the old train station right around the corner. Just a mile east of town are the world-famous Roy Purcell Murals, and petroglyphs left by the Hualapai Indians who once lived on this land. Chloride, Arizona’s oldest inhabited silver mining camp, is located 23 miles north of Kingman and 80 miles south of Las Vegas. Take Highway 93 to State Route 125, turn east and drive four miles. Watch for the Chloride sign. For more information call (626) 483-4571.
