Quinones takes plea in crash through dance studio

KINGMAN – The Fort Mohave woman whose vehicle struck a building housing a dance studio last year entered a plea agreement in Kingman Tuesday. Maria Lourdes Rolon Quinones pleaded guilty to criminal damage and driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol charges.

The Dream Big & Grow Dance Studio and its students were displaced when the Mercedes sport-utility vehicle operated by Rolon Quinones, 60, crashed into Unit 102 at the Palms Business Plaza, 4140 Lynn Drive, in Fort Mohave at 2:41 a.m. last Dec. 12.

The criminal damage conviction is associated with damage the structure sustained. The DUI conviction involves testing that revealed her blood alcohol concentration after the accident was between 1.20% and 1.24%, while the legal limit is set at .08% in Arizona.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen told Rolon Quinones he’ll be reading more about the incident prior to a Nov. 14 sentencing hearing. Defense attorney Virginia Crews informed the Court she’ll be explaining more about the defendant’s association with the owner of the property.

Terms of the deal require Judge Jantzen to place Rolon Quinones on probation. He can also order up to a year in the county jail, though he said he would likely impose less than half of that if so inclined.
