Carter takes plea in shooting death

KINGMAN – A Golden Valley man pleaded not guilty to second degree murder during his Aug. 19 arraignment in Mohave County Superior Court. Kenneth Carter, 36, is charged in the Aug. 2 shooting death of David Roberts.

Sheriff’s Office personnel responding at 12:43 a.m. located the victim dead at the scene inside his home in the 3800 block of Diabase Drive. Carter and his father Kenneth Carter Sr., 58, turned themselves in about 15 hours after the shooting.

The elder Carter is charged with hindering prosecution. His son is held in the Adult Detention Facility on $1-million bond while awaiting a Sept. 16 pretrial conference before Judge Lee Jantzen.

Authorities have not disclosed any motive for the deadly violence.
