LAKE HAVASU CITY – It’s easy to tell that summer is approaching Lake Havasu. The sun comes up at 6 a.m. and doesn’t fade away into the sunset until about 7:55 p.m. However, the fast-approaching season did not stop the Lake Havasu Astronomy Club from gathering underneath the stars last Saturday for a star party.
Their star party took place on Saturday, May 11t on the tranquil campgrounds of Cattail Cove. The Lake Havasu Astronomy Club’s is a no-membership group that is informal and it’s always welcome for people of the public to join in.
They have educational exhibits at the library and have previously had solar eclipse viewing events at Mohave Community College. The club meets on the second Tuesday of each month from September to June at 4:30 p.m. at the Mohave County Public Library.
Last week, the club got together to explore the wonders of the night’s sky. This was a free event with only ten dollar parking fees per car. Members were able to bring their own telescopes and chairs to gain a better understanding of astronomical objects, and experience the opportunity to view them with their own eyes.
Free hot chocolate was provided to ease the chilly breezes of the desert night. The mission of The Lake Havasu Astronomy Club is to bring amateur astronomers together, and educate the community about gaining a new hobby in astronomy.
