Free life jacket swap out event is Saturday

LAKE HAVASU CITY – As warmer temperatures will be approaching Lake Havasu, many people will be heading out to our beautiful lake for swimming, fishing, and boating activities  for ultimate cool downs. However, safety on the lake should be a top priority to ensure that time spent on the water remains an enjoyable occasion.

That is why this month, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating and Safety will be collaborating Arizona Game and Fishing Department (G&F) to  share the importance on how wearing a life jacket in good condition that fits comfortably is key for having safe adventures at the lake. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating and Safety has boating officers that have been appointed as field training officers. This is a volunteer role where staff dedicates countless hours on sharing boat safety throughout Mohave County.

G&F is well known as the place where you can register your boat and renew fishing licenses, but they also strive to conserve wildlife and promote safety for outdoor recreation. This event will be free to the public. Attendees can swap out those old worn out life jackets for new ones.

While the orange type II jackets will not be accepted, this event will be letting the public know that when inspecting life jackets, they need to be free of missing straps, broken fasteners, rips, and tears so that flotations remain unshifted. According to AZGFD, worn lifejackets require yearly inspections for that added safety due to the impacts from the environment on the materials.

The Life Jacket Exchange event will be taking place on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to noon on the London Bridge Beach Stage. This will be a much needed event to attend to ensure safety on the lake this season.
