MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Public Works Director Steve Latoski announced this afternoon “After rigorous flushing and disinfecting through the past week, our latest samples came back negative/clear to which we are lifting the boil water advisory for the I-40 Water System customers this afternoon.” He also mentioned that

“our disinfection and system flushing exercises continued through the week without any negative developments.” There had been an extended advisory period due to certain meticulous coordination with the Prison that involved work to isolate the Prison’s stored water while staff flushed the system through pressure from adjacent Well #7.  Latoski said “this section of the system is a dead-end line which is why the extra steps were necessary.”

E. coli was present in the I-40 Industrial Water System water. E. coli bacteria was found in the water supply on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Those bacteria could make people sick and are a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems. Bacterial contamination can occur when increased run-off enters the drinking water source (for example, following heavy rains). It can also happen due to a break in the distribution system (pipes) or a failure in the water treatment process.
