Did 2021 just fly by? Seems like. We now enter the land of diet food and exercise equipment. Just a suggestion: don’t overdo it and get your doctor to approve.
Just a quick look bac on 2021.
It seems impossible but COVID-19 is still hanging in. We lost some good friends and I especially miss Chaplain Paul Pitts. He was there when I didn’t think I needed him, but I did. A reminder for all of us: don’t be the toughie; ask for help before the situation gets out of hand.
As we move into January, it looks like the contract to renovate the Arnold Plaza will be advertised. This is a big project and hopefully we can open the doors by November 11.
Our Operation #6 program is up to 17 participants. It’s amazing how many homeless veterans have found shelter through all the programs available. These include HUD VASH (currently out of vouchers), the JAVC, Catholic Charities, Nations’ Finest, Cornerstone Mission, and Mohave County Community Services. It’s always amazing how working as a team usually has a better result. It’s also amazing how many more homeless veterans are out there.
We have just received a generous grant from the Halle Foundation to construct four more tiny homes by the end of 2022. We do this in collaboration with the GEO Group Work Based education crew. We have already donated one tiny home and two RVs to homeless veterans. Additionally, we have donated seven vehicles to veterans that needed them for work, file applications, get prescriptions, food, etc.
Our first Veterans Resource Fair will be in cooperation with the Kingman Elks Lodge #468. The location is the Mohave County Fairgrounds and we have already sent out fliers. If you didn’t get one, please email Jennifer.burch@javc.org to order or reserve. We look forward to seeing you again.
It’s Arizona State Tax time again, and the JAVC is a Qualified Charitable Organization, and you can direct up to $400 as an individual or $800 as a household to the JAVC and just the same as giving it to the state. You can go to https://javc.org/arizona-state-tax-donation/ for the easiest way to donate right over the website. There have been a few changes to the tax laws, so I advise you check it out.
Looking for work? There is plenty of it available and most are paying fair wages.
