LAKE HAVASU CITY – Many seniors call the Lake Havasu Senior Center (LHSC) home. The center provides
provides opportunities for mature adults to interact with an energetic community and resources. LHSC aims to ensure that seniors have a better quality of life and maintain healthy daily habits. In operation for over 25 years, the center has a full schedule of daily activities.
Each activity has been designed for the sake of socializing. Exercise classes are offered three days per week for bone loss prevention.
They also offer line dancing events for beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers.
Their Morning Wellness Calling program is a free service available to any seniors to ensure that they are okay on a daily basis. Seniors can sign up for this service and receive a daily phone call during business hours. The center can also send someone for a wellness check if needed.
Another way LHSC looks out for their community is through the Meals on Wheels program. By partnering with WACOG, the center delivers meals Monday through Friday to seniors in need. The Meals on Wheels program services Havasu Heights, Desert Hills, Crystal Beach, and Lake Havasu City. Seniors who are independently living in their homes and are disabled or homebound, can have nutritious meals delivered to them. To find out more about Meals on Wheels call 800-782-1886.
Program Director and LHC Coordinator Jamie Rogers is well aware that the seniors that they have formed connections with outside of the center, often live a very secluded lifestyle.
“A lot of times, when we reach out to the seniors in our Morning Wellness Calling program, we will be the only ones that talk to them that whole day. It’s the same with our Meals on Wheels program. Many of the seniors we deliver meals to really look forward our visits, even if it’s just for a short amount of time,” said Rogers.
The exterior of LHSC may look small, but once you enter the building there is so much to explore!
The center has a thrift store, called Nifty Thrifty. Patrons can purchase gently used household items and clothing with all funds going towards the Meals on Wheels program. The center donates to other charities as well such as St. Vincent De Paul, Veterans Thrift Store, and the Western Arizona Humane Society.
LHSC also keeps their doors open to all seniors wanting to join their family.
The center offers physical fitness activities, card games, daily lunches, music, crafts, and a library.
