Detectives honored 9/11

Detective Chaun Williams with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office once again participated in the 9/11 Tower Challenge, which is an annual event honoring the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001. This event was held at the Northern Arizona University campus in Flagstaff on Sept. 11. This is Detective Williams’ fifth time participating in this annual event.

Detective Williams says he was “privileged and honored to climb for F.D.N.Y James A. Giberson, 43, of Ladder 35.” Giberson was a loving husband and father of three daughters. A resident of Huguenot, West Virginia, Giberson had just celebrated 20 years of service with Ladder 35 in Manhattan on September 5, just days prior to the collapse of the towers. He was last seen entering Tower 2 in attempts to rescue those

trapped inside. The tower collapsed a short time later. Giberson remains among the list of missing firefighters never recovered.

A loving husband and father, Giberson had spent the previous Saturday with his daughters at the Great Kills Swim Club, where he was on the Board of Directors. It was the last weekend the pool was open for the season and Mrs. Giberson is especially grateful the girls spent that time with their father.

Det. Williams was able to locate Mr. Giberson’s photo among all the first responders lost on that day and sat next to it for a photo.
