Shooting victim dies

KINGMAN – The Kingman man arrested for separate shootings five hours apart last week is facing a second-degree murder charge following the death of one of the victims. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies located the wounded subject after responding to a north Kingman residence in the 2600 block of Potter Ave at 9:39 p.m. on March 3.

MCSO spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Steven Lee Fritz, 49, Kingman, was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the chest. She said Fritz was subsequently flown to a Las Vegas hospital where he died of his injuries.

Mortensen said the shooting suspect later identified as Jason Allen Campbell fled the first shooting scene in a vehicle. Deputies responded at 2:21 a.m. on March 4 to a report that Campbell was at a home in the 2200 block of Leroy Ave.

“Deputies and detectives responded to the residence where Campbell was found to be threatening the two occupants,” Mortensen said. “Campbell fired at one of the victims, striking him in the arm.”

Officers arrested Campbell and seized his firearm following a short foot pursuit. The second shooting victim was taken to KRMC for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

The sheriff’s office has not indicated any motive for the shootings or if they are connected. The investigation continues.
