KINGMAN – Kingman will use internal promotion to select its next police chief according to City Manager Ron Foggin. He said assistant police chiefs Rusty Cooper and Evan Kunert are finalists to succeed retiring Chief Bob Devries.

“Chief Devries has done a great job mentoring and putting his leadership team in a position to be able to take over when he leaves, which I am pleased about,” Foggin said. He said two hiring committees have been assembled to conduct interviews with Cooper and Kunert the week of March 23.

“My plan is to sit down with a couple representatives from each committee to kind of give me what the group’s thoughts were on the candidates and I will do a final interview,” Foggin said.

Kunert has served the Kingman Police Department for more than 17 years while Cooper has been with the agency for more than 28 years. Chief Devries’ 40 year law enforcement career will end in retirement at the end of April.
