AZGFD reminds outdoor enthusiasts to practice OHV, boating safety for July 4 celebrations

The Fourth of July is near and many Arizonans will include outdoor recreation in celebration plans. If operating an off-highway vehicle (OHV) or boating the waterways are part of your plans, the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) urges everyone to put safety first. Off-highway Vehicle Recreation The Consumer Federation of America reports that most OHV fatalities occur in July, with the highest number of fatalities occurring on Independence Day. There are many actions operators of OHVs — like all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes and side-by-sides — can take to ride safely and help ensure the safety of those around them:…

MCSO Boating Division participating in Operation Dry Water

During the weekend of July 5 through 7, The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety will again be participating in Operation Dry Water. Operation Dry Water is a national campaign with the focus of reducing the number of alcohol and drug related crashes and fatalities, while fostering a stronger, more visible deterrent to alcohol and drug use on the water. Law Enforcement Agencies from all 50 U.S. States will be participating in this year’s targeted enforcement. Since its inception in…

She said public concerns that quality of animal care will decline…

Land of the free and home of the brave

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, or Independence Day. During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain in 1776 actually occurred on July 2, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June declaring the United States independent from Great Britain’s rule. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. There is no greater blessing than to be a…

BOS approves Ft. Mohave zoning exemption

Mohave County Supervisors voted Monday to approve rezoning that will allow a couple to construct a garage on their Fort Mohave property before they build their home on the same site. The Board’s 5-0 vote of approval essentially overturned the denial recommendation of the county planning and zoning commission. Development Services Director Tim Walsh explained that the 1.25 acre parcel south of Sundance Drive and east of Nicholas Drive carries an R-O/A zoning designation requiring that homes be built before auxiliary structures. He said rezoning the property to A-R would allow Delmar and Vicki Sanders to put the garage up first….
