MOHAVE COUNTY – Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley spoke of rising coronavirus numbers Monday, the same day that Mohave County reported more than 900 new cases were documented in a three-day period tracing back to Friday afternoon.
“Cases are up by 15% over last week from the previous week,” Burley told county supervisors during the Board meeting in Kingman. She said four area hospitals continue dealing with the COVID-19 crunch.
“Last week Mohave County Emergency Departments averaged together over 100-plus COVID visits per day. Ventilator use by COVID patients doubled the previous week’s usage,” Burley said. “ICU and inpatient bed average availability revealed new lows while average percentage of beds occupied reached new highs.”
Dist. 2 Sup Hildy Angius put a different spin on data analysis.
“There is a little bright spot in that the percentage of deaths in relation to COVID positive cases in December was 1.1, which is low,” Angius said. “We have more cases but less deaths and that is something positive.”
Burley agreed but noted that there are “still a lot of lives lost.”
Angius and Dist. 4 Sup Jean Bishop have had some contentious exchanges during recent board meetings. Such was the case again Monday when Angius noted that many believe that coronavirus death numbers are artificially high because deaths resulting from other factors and afflictions end up being a COVID-19 statistic.
Bishop said that wasn’t the case with Dan Bishop, her recently departed husband.
“My husband died about 20 days ago. He had COVID-19 and that was not the cause of his death,” Bishop said. “I do have his death certificate and it says nothing about COVID-19 being the cause of his death or related to the cause of his death.”
Burley told supervisors that the county received 5,700 doses of coronavirus vaccine the week of Dec. 20, another 2,000 doses the week of Dec. 27 and that another 1,00 doses are expected this week. She said the county is unaware how many vaccines have been administered.
Burley said the people in the 1B second tier of priority could start to be vaccinated in a couple of weeks. She said timetables are unclear but that the county is developing a website that will be helpful to the public going forward.

Denise Burley does not have the qualifications to make medical assumptions or lead a county through a pandemic….she is a glorified PE coach! Tell the truth Burley, you can also catch Mononucleosis, cold sores (Herpes), Coxsackie Virus, Hep B, and Streptococcus through saliva as well. As long as we keep pretending like this virus is all powerful and knowing, we will be easily tricked into fear. Don’t fall for it people. Use common sense and don’t forget you can add 2+2. It’s sad to think adults have become so ignorant we don’t know how to keep ourselves healthy. Absurd! That’s why we need Resolution 1776 to pass. That way all the sheep who like being scared can stay scared and “We The People”, who prefer freedom over fear, will continue our quest for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness free from your opinions or recommendations.
Just wondered if Denise Burley could stand up to scrutiny in a valid court of law? Is she an expert, proven in court? Can she create a report explaining the validity of “cases” and justification for any of the damaging restrictions? Can she properly explain herself under cross-examination? She’s getting her salary and her pension funded, but can she justify any restrictions that have put an economic hit on the count, scientifically, in a court setting?. And, why is the county not know how many of the experimental un-FDA -approved vaccines were administered? Until Denise is put in a chair and examined by lawyers, nobody should be getting any vaccine.
