Plea deal sentencing up in the air

KINGMAN – A judge has broad range of punishment discretion in the case of a Golden Valley man who has entered a plea agreement in a drug case. Daniel Davis, 70, pleaded guilty on June 16 to separate possession and attempted possession of dangerous drug charges.

Deputy Mohave County attorney Morgan Carstensen said 7 grams of methamphetamine was confiscated from the defendant’s home on south Tonto Road in Golden Valley in March. The prosecutor told the Court that the seizure occurred after deputies conducted a “knock and talk” due to intelligence about suspected drug dealing activity at the residence.

Carstensen said Davis admitted daily use of meth, but denied involvement in sales activity.

Carstenson told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle that Davis was arrested again in April following a traffic stop in Golden Shores. She said about one quarter ounce of meth was seized in that incident.

Davis is eligible for probation on the low end of the spectrum in a deal that also subjects him to up to seven years in prison. Judge Carlisle scheduled sentencing for July 16.
