Join in on the first Friday in June for Downtown Kingman’s First Friday’s Wheels on Beale! There will be TWO blocks closed this month! Between 3rd and 4th Streets will be all kinds of courses for bikes, skates, scooters, and skateboards! They’ll have DJ Jeremiah Green again playing everyone’s favorites while everyone checks out the other offerings. There will be pop-up parks all throughout Beale Street as well as family game centers and activities for kids! The event is free to attend. Lower energy costs lead to summer savings for UniSource Electric customers

UniSource Energy Services electric customers will enjoy summer bill savings that average more than $21 per month thanks to reduced natural gas and power prices. The Arizona Corporation Commission approved UniSource’s request to apply an energy cost credit of 1.85 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to its electric bills from June 1 to Sept. 30. Tourism to Lake Mead National Recreation Area creates $336 million in economic benefits

A new National Park Service report shows that 7.6 million visitors to Lake Mead National Recreation Area in 2018 spent an estimated $336 million in local gateway communities while visiting the park. These expenditures supported a total of 3,990 jobs, $149 million in labor income, $247 million in value added and $397 million in economic output in local gateway economies surrounding Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The peer-reviewed visitor spending analysis was conducted by economists Catherine Cullinane Thomas and Egan Cornachione of the U.S. Geological Survey and Lynne Koontz of the National Park Service. Rotary learns about WWII Memorial restoration

Speaking at Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s May 24th meeting was Terry Flanagan, Commandant of Marine Corps League 887. Flanagan spoke to the club on the World War I Memorial currently being restored by the Marine Corps League’s Devil Dogs. In the 1990’s the machine gun figure between the doughboy and sailor disappeared at a time when copper was being stolen throughout the area and it is being replaced by the Devil Dogs. Dedication of the memorial is scheduled for June 29th in front of the courthouse.

Tourism to Grand Canyon National Park creates economic benefits

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that the 6.3 million visitors to Grand Canyon National Park in 2018 spent $947 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 12,558 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $1.2 billion. “Grand Canyon National Park welcomes visitors who come from across the country and  around the world,” said Sarah Creachbaum, acting Superintendent. “We know that  these visitors make significant contributions to the economy – local, state and national.
