Dear Editor,
I realize this is conservative territory, but if my liberal (not communistic, there is a difference) slanted letters are causing those on the right to question policies on both sides of the aisle, then this fulfills my intention and should be viewed as a good thing. However, my greatest realization and concern for America is the fact that one person, back by millions, almost brought about the demise of our great democracy. Not only that, but handed China and Russia the gift of knowing just how fragile our democracy actually is.
I want to thank The Standard for engaging in the exchange of viewpoints.
To be clear, both Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy have indicated they will do nothing to support the Biden agenda and everything to thwart it. A built-in excuse as to why the Biden administration has accomplished so little. Never mind the superior jobs report just released.
Mr. Bennett questions the wisdom of halting pipeline (Feb. 9 edition of The Standard). You do realize that fossil fuels are finite, and at some point they will be exhausted? What I find amazing and strange to note: seems every time there is weather in the Gulf of Mexico, gasoline prices go up immediately? Meanwhile, fossil fuels contribute to global warming so it seems natural an alternative sustainable source of energy – wind and solar – will supply energy needs in the future.
One of Trump’s campaign promises was to end the 20 year Afghanistan war. Didn’t happen, admittedly the withdrawal was bungled, Biden took the blame, even though it was a military exercise. This would logically imply that the U.S. military trained Afghan troops would start defending themselves with the equipment, which was left for them, once the evacuation was completed.
As for the open borders, Biden did propose humane changes to U.S. immigration laws. You can look it up. Who blocked the plan? Republicans. Now we hear over and over about building the wall. How many tunnels have been found, how many times do we see people scaling the walls? Will Anglos go to Yuma to harvest crops in the heat?
I was not aware the 1st amendment was under attack, but the 2nd? I do know when it was written, we had muzzle loader single shot rifles. Who needs an AR-15? There were 45,222 gun deaths in 2020 and 20,726 in 2021, 693 mass shootings with 115,551 wounded? To me, this is unacceptable.
Statehood for Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia: have a look at the red states redistricting and gerrymandering to keep Republicans in office and make it harder for certain to vote. Since this is apparently the aim in conservative states – Arizona included – the feds may need to set some standards.
Want to talk about Antifa and BLM being far-left organizations trying to force Marxist philosophies down our throats? How about the Proud Boys and Unite the Right’s insurrection attempt at the Capitol Building? Enough said!
Let’s explore packing the Supreme Court. Remember when President Obama wanted to nominate Merrick Garland, Mitch McConnell took care of that plan by claiming since it was an election year the new president should be allowed the appointment. Compare to Trump: three appointments and already there is an assault on Roe v. Wade. The current ratio is six conservatives to three liberals (one soon to retire). Hardly equitable or packed with liberals, but a black female justice!
Inflation. Now there is a plan. Blame inflation on Biden, it has nothing to do with the pandemic, or the supply chain, never mind there are many who will not get vaccinated or wear masks to try slowing the spread of COVID.
Now to Iran. If memory serves, President Trump withdrew us from the Obama administration Iran nuclear arms agreement. Now, reportedly, Iran is very close to having enough uranium stockpiled to be able to enrich for a nuclear bomb.
As for the Democrats destroying America, where were you on 6 Jan. 2021? Hopefully, the G.O.P. will return to the family values and decency of the past Republican Party.

Let’s not forget Tucker Carlson and Franklin Graham praising Putin. When did dictators become so popular?
