Members of the Republican Party in Mohave County responded to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.

“The day after the Capitol incident our phones were just ringing off the hook,” said County Recorder Kristi Blair. “Some were asking to be taken off the Republican party rolls and some Republicans re-registered as independents.”

Blair said the phone call blitz quickly subsided.

Voter registration specialist Irma Allen said there’s an ebb and flow of activity throughout the year with people signing up to vote or changing their political affiliation. “Sometimes it goes the other way too,” Allen said, noting that some leave the democratic party as well.

Blair said voter registration trends will be more measurable when her office issue completes its quarterly report the second week of April.
