MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society – Alpha Chi Omega chapter on the Kingman campus hosted its induction ceremony Thursday for new members for Spring 2024.

Thirty-eight new PTK members were inducted: Eva Ariza Cantoran, Lovette Averett, Mariela Balderrama, Patricia Basel, Suzanne Carley, Amy Crump, Makayla Dalrymple, Freddy De Leon, Kendal Fancon, Ethan Gervasoni, Jared Giamporcaro, Ciara Griffin, Keith Gutierrez, Emily Hernandez, Shantal Hernandez, Michael Hill, Ronny Hood, Antoinette Hunt, Shelby Iles, Marley Kittelson, Teagin Lewis, Michelle Mangano, Emily McKinney, Rylie McKinney, Angelica Montes, Trey Murray, Emily Pangburn, Payton Pfeiffer, Jaclyn Pine, Sean Shiell, Alexander Solomon, Cedric Daniel Tan, Tony Taussig, Shelby Thomas, Olivia Tobias, Dawrius Walema, Kathie Wenerstrom and Alicia Williams.

Students are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa if they have achieved a cumulative 3.5 GPA and earned 12 credit hours or if they are in a certificate program and have earned 6 credit hours.

MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein officially opened the ceremony by welcoming all of the new members and guests. He told them that all of your diligence, hard work, and prioritization of academics has gotten you to this point and that this night is all about celebrating those things.

Other MCC administration in attendance included Dr. Tim Culver, Executive Vice President, Dr. Lucinda Leugers, Dean of General and Transfer Education, and Dr. Tonya Jackson, Associate Dean of Instruction – Kingman Campus.

Jennie Dixon, Vice President of Administrative Services at MCC, was the guest speaker and shared an inspiring message on her recipe for success. Dixon discussed her experiences and advice on consistency, persistence, collaboration, and fun, and how all of these things can help you reach your goals. She continued on to say, “Don’t be afraid to seek out help and talk about things with other people because working as a team can be a powerful thing.”

Advisors are John Hansen, English faculty, Janice Tubbs, institutional research, and Kelene Keating, Science faculty. Officers include President, Robert Gale; Vice President of Leadership, Cody Price; Vice President of Service, Martha Aguilar; Vice President of Fellowship, Fiona Pedi; Vice President of Scholarship, Michael Hiller; Vice President of Public Relations, Lisa Sanchez; and Secretary, Debbie McKee.

“The decision to join PTK can lead to larger opportunities both in and out of the classroom. From select scholarships and awards to service projects that can help people in our local community, I’m excited to see this new group become active members in our chapter” said John Hansen, PTK advisor.

Before the newly minted members took the official oath, an overview of the PTK symbol was explained.

“The graceful, curling leaves of the laurel signify achievement and success, all attributes for membership in our Society,” Gale said.

Once the oath was taken, Kelene Keating, PTK advisor, told members to “Explore always for truth and to dedicate yourselves to the cultivation of the well-reasoned life, a prelude to service and honor.”

After the inductees signed the record book, received a white rose, and a candle, advisor Tubbs closed the ceremony.

“Thank you to everyone in the audience who came out to support these students. You all play a huge role in their success,” she said.

Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students by providing an opportunity for leadership, service, and development.
