KINGMAN – A ground-breaking ceremony for a new Superior Court building will be held on Monday, March 18^th at 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot east of the Historic Courthouse, 401 East Spring Street.  Chief Justice Scott Bales of the Arizona Supreme Court will attend and participate in the ceremony.   Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Hildy Angius, will also be participating in the ground-breaking ceremony.  The event is open to members of the public and anyone interested in attending is encouraged to arrive by 1:45 p.m. as seating will be limited.  

Mohave County Presiding Judge Charles W. Gurtler, Jr. notes the significance of this event as plans for a new Superior Court building have been in the works for more than 15 years.  With the recent expansion of both the court facilities in Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City, this new courthouse in Kingman will provide much needed new space, enhanced work conditions for staff and the requisite security protocols of a modern facility.  Once complete there are plans to remodel portions of the Historic courthouse, so the Kingman/Cerbat Justice court can move from their temporary facility into the historic building. 

Funding for the new Courthouse is coming from the county quarter-cent sales tax that has been in place for the past 19 years and sunsets at the end of this year.  Additionally, some funds will come from local court fee accounts and from the recent sale of a county property.   The contractor for this project is Johnson Carlier, LLC out of Tempe, Arizona.  Architectural work was done by Dick & Fritsche Design Group and Selberg Associates Inc.   On site work is expected to begin on April 1.
