MOHAVE COUNTY – Governor Katie Hobbs has officially proclaimed April 2024 as Arizona Community College Month, recognizing the vital role that community colleges play in shaping the future of the state’s economy and providing high-quality education and training to students of all backgrounds and ages.

MCC and Arizona’s nine other community college districts are committed to providing accessible, affordable, high-quality education and training to their respective communities. The colleges offer a wide range of programs and services, including technical training, transfer degrees, workforce development, early college experiences, and adult education, designed to meet the needs of students and employers alike.

“We are honored by the Governor’s proclamation recognizing the importance of community colleges in Arizona,” said MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein, who is also the Chairman of the Arizona Community College Coordinating Council representing all ten community college districts in the state.

“Community colleges are crucial in providing students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue their academic and professional goals, while also contributing to the growth and prosperity of Arizona’s businesses and industries,” said Dr. Klippenstein.

Arizona’s community colleges serve over 250,000 students each year, helping them attain the skills and knowledge needed to become active and engaged members of their communities. They also play a key role in meeting the state’s attainment goal of Achieve60AZ by helping more students and working adults attain a license, credential, or degree.

Community colleges also help their local and regional economies through the creation of an educated and skilled workforce.  In Mohave County, through the operations of MCC, along with its student and alumni, an additional $154.9 million is added to the Mohave County economy each year, based on a recent economic impact study. The study is available on the MCC website at Mohave.edu/ImprovingLives.

“We commend the dedication and hard work of the faculty, staff and leadership of Arizona’s Community Colleges in providing excellent education and training to students,” added Dr. Klippenstein. “This proclamation highlights the vital role community colleges play in helping build a stronger and more prosperous Arizona.”

Community colleges across the country are also celebrating National Community College Month, and this Arizona proclamation reinforces the state’s recognition of the value community colleges bring to the state.
