Abigail Jaimes-Gomez, an Educational Developer at Mohave Community College, has been selected as a 2023 Donald H. Wulff Diversity Fellow.

MOHAVE COUNTY – Abigail Jaimes-Gomez, an Educational Developer at Mohave Community College, was selected as a 2023 Donald H. Wulff Diversity Fellow. The fellowship strives to increase and support participation of individuals from historically underrepresented groups in the field of educational development.

As an educational developer, she focuses on understanding the current state of higher education, and identifying how MCC can leverage and advance our teaching practices to best serve our students and our communities.

“I’m feeling all the emotions,” Jaimes-Gomez said. “I’m nervous, excited and eager to learn.” It’s an honor to have the opportunity to connect with colleagues who are in a similar role to build community around our work, and discuss current issues and trends in our profession.”

Jaimes-Gomez decided to apply for the fellowship because it increases and supports individuals from historically underrepresented groups in the field of educational development. She is looking forward to learning more about advancing her knowledge of teaching and learning when it comes to instructional practices and inclusive pedagogies in community colleges and Hispanic Serving Institutions.

The fellowship is a competitive, peer-reviewed fellowship that reflects a recognition of dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and demonstrated potential for innovation and excellence in DEI-related work.

Jaimes-Gomez is part of the Center for Teaching and Learning department at MCC and is involved in various committees at the College. She’s part of K-12 MALC Pipeline Project, DEI Implementation Team, Institutional Effectiveness Network, ASU STEM Kickstarter Grant Project and the 2023-2024 Bighorn Leadership Academy.

Jaimes-Gomez is an MCC alumna and graduated in 2015 with her Associate of Arts in Education. She then went on to pursue her bachelor’s degree in education at Northern Arizona University through the MCC2NAU pathway. She also earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from NAU.

Jaimes-Gomez is a first-generation student, meaning she was the first in her family to attend a college or university. Due to the help of scholarships through the MCC Foundation, she was able to complete her associate and bachelor’s degrees debt free.
