Kingman Fire Department Battalion Chief Adrian Hairston has successfully completed the process that awards the professional designation of “Chief Fire Officer” (CFO). The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) met on February 5, to confer the designation.

Battalion Chief Hairston becomes one of only 1,344 CFOs worldwide. The designation program is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate their excellence in seven measured components including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement and technical competence. In addition, all applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan. The CFO designation program uses a comprehensive peer review model to evaluate candidates seeking the credential.

The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) awards the designation only after an individual successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria. Achieving this designation signifies Chief Hairston’s commitment to his/her career in the fire and emergency services. This professional designation is valid for three years. Maintaining the designation requires recipients to show continued growth in the areas of professional development, professional contributions, active association membership and community involvement as well as adhere to a strict code of professional conduct.

BC Hairston makes the third Kingman Fire Department Chief Officer to achieve the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation and joins Fire Chief Jake Rhoades and Assistant Fire Chief Keith Eaton. The Kingman Fire Department command staff also includes officers with the Fire Officer (FO) credentials including BC Mike Stapleton, BC Tom Flanagan, Captain Chris Simpson and Captain Tanner Miller.

Kingman Fire Chief Jake Rhoades states “I could not be more proud of Adrian and this personal accomplishment. The future of our fire department relies on members like him and shows his desire to improve and develop himself and future members.” Rhoades continues, “The efforts of our command staff to ensure that the community of Kingman is in good hands for today and tomorrow is a top priority and it shows on a daily basis.” BC Hairston joined the department in October of 2018 and oversees the training division. BC Hairston’s professional background in the fire service began in 2006 and includes service to departments of Atlanta and DeKalb County in the Atlanta area.
