Cardboard fire at recycling center

LAKE HAVASU CITY – It took Lake Havasu City firefighters about two hours to bring under control a fire that scorched material in the outdoor cardboard recycle area at Republic Waste Services in the 2000 block of College Dr. Personnel responded at about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday when employees called 911 after discovering smoke emanating from cardboard recycle piles.
“The first arriving fire company reported two large cardboard piles on fire and a third pile as an exposure,” a city-issued news release said. “There were no reported injuries to firefighters, however two employees of the noted business went to the hospital by private vehicle, due to smoke inhalation.”
The news release said cause of the fire was initially undetermined.
