KINGMAN – City of Kingman Mayor Jen Miles and Council will present a proclamation designating the month of February, “African American History Month.” The council meeting is held at the Kingman City Complex, located at 310 N. Fourth St., beginning at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21. The community is invited to attend, and help the city of Kingman recognize African American community members who have enriched our city.

“Educators, law enforcement, public employees, healthcare workers, business owners and thriving entrepreneurs have inspired growth, change and diversity in our community,” said Mayor Miles. “It gives me great pride to sign this proclamation the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, in recognition of his legacy.”

President Gerald Ford was the first president to recognize then-designated Black History Month, during the celebration of the United States Bicentennial. He urged Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history”.
