Mohave County may be on the verge of resolving its Medical Examiner services dilemma, while working to fill other key positions. The County for months has been unable to draw interest in running the operation after coroner Dr. Archiaus Mosley long ago indicated he did not wish to renew his contract that has been extended month to month after it expired in June.

County Manager Sam Elters said Mosley may remain on board under a newly proposed partnership that would involve an undisclosed funeral home. Elters explained the funeral home would handle the business and administrative end of the contract, while Mosley would provide autopsy and other medical services at the morgue that is currently based in Lake Havasu City.

Elters said negotiations continue behind the scenes and that staff is trying to complete the new contract proposal for consideration at one of the Board meetings scheduled in November. He said additional details will be made public as the process continues.

The County continues working to fill two Director positions. The search for a new Library Director has been unsuccessful since Kathy Pennell indicated her wish to retire months ago.

Elters said one finalist declined an offer due to compensation concerns and another backed out after accepting another position elsewhere. Elters said he will consider recruiting a new Library Director from within the County organization.

Elters said the County is currently taking applications for the Administrative Services Director position, vacant since the Aug. 5 death of Yvonne Orr.

Presiding Judge Steve Moss is soon expected to announce his appointment for the Court Commission post vacated by the promotion of Megan McCoy to Superior Court Judge. 4 Kingman-based attorneys are finalists for the position.
