The Lake Havasu City Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration to hold the next Pharmaceutical Take-Back Day, Saturday, April 27, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This one-day event, free of charge, makes it convenient for the public to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs at a drop-off location in front of the Lake Havasu City Police Department, located at 2360 McCulloch Boulevard North.
The program is anonymous and with no requests for identification to dispose of medication. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing medication from its container and disposing directly into the disposal box. Please remove any personal identifying information from original containers. No liquids, needles, sharps, or inhalers are to be disposed of during this event.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department has a drop box in front of the police department that is available 24-hours a day for disposal of unwanted medication. The drop box does not accept liquids, creams or sharps and is not for commercial disposal of large quantities of unwanted drugs.
Properly disposing of the expired, unused, and unwanted pills will help prevent drug abuse and theft. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from the medicine cabinets of family and friends.
