MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave Community College Workforce Excellence Series is connecting community members with the skills they need to excel in the workplace. Starting the second week of January, MCC and the Lake Havasu City, Kingman and Bullhead City Chambers of Commerce will host Tri-City Workforce Excellence Series Kick-Off sessions for chamber members and businesses to learn about the classes.
Several Mohave County municipalities have already taken advantage of the wide range of offerings through the Workforce Excellence Series, which focuses on teaching many soft-skills relevant to local workforce needs. Those include customer service, resolving conflict and successful communication, team performance for success, organizational leadership, and managing and supervising others.
The College and Chambers are hosting three informational kick-off events where attendees will gain a better understanding of the Workforce Excellence Series, its flexible scheduling (day, evening, weekend classes), and operational advantages for business and employees.
The information events will take place at the respective Chambers of Commerce, and are scheduled for:
Jan. 9 in Bullhead City, 1251 AZ-95
Jan. 10 in Kingman, 309 E. Beale St.
Jan. 11 in Lake Havasu City, 314 London Bridge Road
“Instead of running actual classes in this first week, we would like to use this opportunity to discuss the business principles of the series,” said Gina Kremper, Program Manager of Corporate Education, Career Training & Community Education. “This is an opportunity to socialize and provide businesses with a better understanding of what is available for their employees.”
Business owners and chamber members are encouraged to attend. While the series has course offerings already prepared, the College encourages feedback from business owners to help determine the manner in which those courses are executed. At the kick-off events, they can learn more about how the customized programming can be molded to fit specific needs, including half-day workshops focused on current human resource topics.
One recent participant of the Customer Service Excellence course held in Bullhead City was pleased that they were able to use examples unique to their company, because it allowed them to view their situation from a different perspective.
“They can take industry best practices and things we’re sharing and implement them tomorrow,” says Facilitator Dr. Lance Northey. “It’s so refreshing to share information and knowledge that makes peoples’ lives better. I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to see somebody laugh and smile, and encouraged to go back to work with new opportunities and new ideas to share with their staff.”
After the information kick-off sessions, the Spring Workforce Excellence Series courses will run the second and fourth weeks of each month. They will be held at each cities’ respective Chamber of Commerce. MCC’s full list of Workforce Excellence Series courses is available at Mohave.edu/Workforce.
