The Marshall-Brennan chapter at Lee Williams High School in Kingman has first and second place finishes in its first two years of national competition before a panel of federal judges in Washington D.C. Students participating in the club learn about law, the Constitution and U.S. Supreme Court. Senior River Sutton won the national championship last year when Lee Williams sent its first team to the finals for the very first time. Gary Engels returns; looking into allegations of voter fraud in Colorado City

A retired investigator who previously worked for the Bullhead City Police Department and Mohave County Attorney’s Office is going back to work to look into allegations of voter fraud in the northern Arizona community of Colorado City. The board of supervisors on Monday approved county attorney Matt Smith’s request for use of up to $8,000 to have Gary Engels conduct the special investigation. Smith said Engels is especially well-suited to work in the isolated border community of Colorado City where members of a polygamous sect can be uncooperative with outsiders. Solari takes plea deal; other cases pending

A Needles man who entered a mandatory prison plea agreement resolving one criminal case faces scores more years in prison in four other cases still pending in Mohave County Superior Court. Matthew Solari, 31, is the latest of eight defendants to plead guilty for their involvement in a Bullhead City-based opioid ring. That case is being resolved with the guilty pleas Solari entered April 8 for possession of a narcotic drug and attempted forgery. Snowpack benefits Colorado River operations

A monthly study released by the Bureau of Reclamation indicates this winter’s plentiful snowpack will benefit the Colorado River Basin through increased runoff to crucial reservoirs. With the improved hydrology, Lake Powell’s operation for water year 2019 will shift to a balancing release of up to 9.0 million acre-feet. Snowpack in the upper Colorado River basin is about 130 percent of average, with a forecasted April through July inflow into Lake Powell of 9.20 maf, or 128 percent of average. Kellogg speaks on World War 2 airplane smelting

Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s April 12th speaker was Kingman’s Planning and Economic Development Director Gary Kellogg (shown left with club president Becky Fawson). Kellogg presented a 7 minute black and white video, “WW2 AC Last Stand” by Howard Grounds depicting the destruction of World War 2 airplanes at Kingman Airport. Over 5,000 planes were destroyed following WW2. Aluminum from the planes was smelted and it, along with tires, fuel and any other salvageable items were sold.

Treasurer’s office announces temporary satellite office hours

Mohave County Treasurer Cindy Cox has announced the dates, addresses, and office hours for the Bullhead and Lake Havasu City’s temporary satellite offices. The temporary satellite offices will be open from Thursday, April 25, through Wednesday, May 1 at Mohave Electric Cooperative, 928 Hancock Road, Bullhead City and Mohave County Complex, 2001 College Dr., Lake Havasu City. The offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Offices closed each day from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for treasury employee lunch.
