Team set for county fair

KINGMAN – The Mohave County Fair is in its final stage of year-long preparations and ready to go with its opening on Thursday of next week.  Over 50 employees and volunteers are involved in the big event anticipated by thousands. County employees from many departments have been actively supporting the determined effort to make it hugely successful. Most will be on hand to commence working on the 2025 Fair right after the conclusion of this year’s affair.

New after-school program coming to Kingman

KINGMAN – Kingman will soon be getting a new and improved after-school program center for youth through the philanthropy of Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC), in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley (BGCAZ).

The Clubs serve families and their children at 32 locations in the greater Phoenix area, as well Yuma. BGCAZ will enjoy a $1-lease arrangement for up to 25 years to operate in the entire east end of the commercial complex located along Airway Avenue at Burbank St.

Child smuggling attempt thwarted

SAN LUIS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Area Port of San Luis uncovered an alleged child smuggling attempt involving two minors and arrested a woman in connection with the failed attempt. 

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., CBP officers assigned to the San Luis Port of Entry encountered a 28-year-old female U.S. citizen driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra who presented U.S. birth certificates for the two minor children in her vehicle.

11th annual golf tourney to benefit Kiwanis

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Kiwanis of Lake Havasu will be swinging in their charitable ways into September at this year’s Krazy “5 Iron” Golf Tournament. The nonprofit was founded upon creating public events that the community can participate in showing that, “a little help” still goes a long way.  

Kiwanis has a solid reputation for building playgrounds, stocking libraries, and raising funds for backpacks to be filled with school supplies. The nonprofit’s last sporty fundraiser took place this past July with their vintage cartoon bowling tournament.
