Fatal auto crash under investigation

KINGMAN – A deadly traffic accident is under investigation by the Kingman Police Department. Deputy Chief Joel Freed said officers responded about 4 p.m. Wednesday to the crash in the area of Plaza Dr. and Stockton Hill Rd.
“A four-door sedan driven by a 76-year-old female from Kingman exited Plaza Dr. and drove into the southbound lanes of Stockton Hill Rd. and stopped, blocking traffic while attempting to turn northbound,” Freed said. “A sport utility vehicle traveling southbound attempted to swerve and miss the sedan but the sedan accelerated into the path of the SUV.”
Freed said fire department personnel extricated the sedan driver from her heavily damaged vehicle, but that the woman died following transport to Kingman Regional Medical Center. Her name is initially withheld pending notification of kin.
Freed said the SUV driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He said both drivers were using seat belts and that impairment is not a factor of focus in the accident investigation.
