Senior softball team wins tournament

KINGMAN – A Kingman-based traveling senior softball team has won its first tournament since graduating to age-60 bracket play. KSS-Taco Bell won the Gold Glove Qualifier at Rose Mofford Park in Phoenix on Sunday, Feb. 19.
KSS-Taco Bell got off to a slow start, losing its first seeding game Saturday to the Cross-Eyed Crickets 14-7. Coach Roy Heisner said the bats were explosive the rest of the way, as KSS-Taco Bell scored 138 runs over the next 5 games, beating the Desperados 24-15 for the Championship.
Heisner said the 39 runs scored in a semi-final win over Hammer Time is the most runs in the 12-year history of KSS-Taco Bell. It was against Hammer Time 8 years ago when KSS bats exploded for 17 runs with two outs in an extra inning game won by the Tucson team.
Heisner said its best offensive tournament ever was supported by strong defense.
“We turned an awful lot of double plays,” Heisner said. “I’ve never seen this KSS team play so well from top to bottom.”
The scorebook shows not one KSS-Taco Bell batter hit under .500 in the six-game tournament. Four players hit above .800.
KSS travels to Mesquite, Nevada for the Spring World Championships next month.
