Dirt bike collision leaves teen dead

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu city teenager was fatally injured when the dirt bike he was operating collided with a side-by-side late Friday afternoon. Mohave County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said authorities responded at 4:30 p.m. to the scene of the crash in the area of Standard Wash in the desert east of Highway 95 outside of Lake Havasu City.
“Deputies arrived on scene and found that the male dirt bike rider was unconscious and unresponsive with by-standers on scene performing CPR. Deputies continued with CPR, prepped the victim, and transported him to the highway for awaiting medical personnel,” Mortensen said. “The dirt bike rider was transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.’’
The deceased was identified as Kaden Abal, 18.
“There were no injuries reported to any passengers in the side by side,” Mortensen said. “Investigations showed that the dirt bike was eastbound in a wash, and the side by side was westbound. The vehicles struck head on around a curve.
Mortensen said Abal was wearing a helmet and proper riding gear. She said that speed appears to be a factor in this incident.
