Fields enters plea for murder case

KINGMAN – A Kingman homicide case could be resolved short of trial through a plea agreement entered in Mohave County Superior Court on Tuesday, November 29. Adam Fields, 31, pleaded guilty to second degree murder and endangerment, criminal charges reduced in the deal from original first degree murder and aggravated assault counts.
Deputy County Attorney James Schoppmann told Judge Derek Carlisle that Kevin Dennis, 48, Kingman was killed when shot in the head on April 8 in Kingman. Schoppmann said arriving sheriff’s deputies found Dennis slumped over the wheel of the vehicle that came to a stop in the 2800 block of Leroy Avenue.
Schoppmann said an uninjured female passenger told deputies that she heard gunshots and was able to guide the vehicle to a stop after Dennis was fatally injured. Investigation led to Fields’ arrest about 10 days after the shooting.
Schoppmann did not indicate any motive for the deadly violence or whether Fields fired from another vehicle or from the roadway. More details could surface during a December 20 sentencing hearing.
Terms of the deal require Judge Carlisle to impose an 18.25-year prison term if he approves the plea agreement.
