KINGMAN – Kingman Unified School District #20 is proud of its high school marching bands as they hit many high notes during the Fall 2022 competition season. Both Kingman High School and Lee Williams High School Marching Bands rank as two of the top bands in their division in both state competition circuits. Arizona high school marching bands are placed into divisions based upon membership numbers within the Arizona Band & Orchestra Directors Association and Arizona Marching Band Association circuits.
Kingman area marching bands will head to the Arizona Marching Band Association’s 2022 State Final Competition on Saturday, November 12 at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix. Competing against 45 bands within Division IA, the Kingman High School Bulldog Band is currently seeded #3 and the Lee Williams High School Volunteers Band is in the #15 spot.
The 2022 Arizona Band & Orchestra Directors Association’s marching competitions will culminate with State Finals on Saturday, November 19 at Glendale Community College. Ranking in the top nine within their division, Kingman High School (#3) and Lee Williams High School (#9) will perform their field shows for the final time of the 2022 marching season.
Competition adjudicators assess bands using standardized rubrics on music, visual performance, general effect, percussion, and auxiliary. Scores can be as close as one-hundredth of a point apart to determine ranking between bands within each division.
High school marching band in the United States brings together woodwind, brass & percussion players as well as color guard & drum majors to demonstrate skills in music, marching and creativity of the pageantry arts. Spending countless hours rehearsing since the July 2022 marching band camps, Kingman marchers have memorized music, developed marching techniques and perfected drill for their football field shows. Marching band participation fosters the pursuit of excellence while promoting teamwork, leadership and creativity.

KUSD high school marching bands along with the Lake Havasu High School Marching Knights and Mohave High School Thunderbird Band will perform locally during the 12th annual Mohave County Marching Exhibition on Wednesday, November 9, 6 p.m. in the Kingman High School Football Stadium, 4182 N. Bank Street Kingman. In the event of inclement weather, the exhibition will be held in the KHS main gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public.
